7 Ways To Celebrate Your Birthday

So, it’s that time of year again. Your birthday. Oh, what to do?

Celebrate, of course. But, unless you have a boyfriend/lover/husband who is a genius at planning things (And let’s remember, we’re talking about men here. Not always their strong suit.), you’re going to need a plan.

Here are 7 fun ideas to try on your next day de birth:

  • If you live near the ocean, rent kayaks.

It’s inexpensive, a great upper body workout, and a fun way to get out of your routine, and see the world from a different perspective.  And let’s be honest, having dolphins swim so close that you can see their smile — totally awesome!

  • Throw an impromptu cocktail party.

So, you live in a tiny apartment. Who cares? Fill your your sink with a couple of bags of ice, throw in a few bottles of rosé, some beer and a little white wine et voilá. A tray of  cheese, cut meats, crackers  and with very little effort, you have yourself a party.  Now, just sit back and enjoy.

  • Stroll the sculpture garden at your favorite museum.

Most major museums have an outdoor sculpture garden. And it’s usually near the café. So, if your birthday falls in the spring or summer, grab a friend and a beverage, and take a stroll. It’s a great way to combine a few of my favorite things: culture, fresh air, good friends and an alcoholic beverage (or two).

  • Go ice skating

Those of you with winter birthdays don’t have as many outdoor options, but ice skating is a classic for a reason. It’s a really fun way to get your goof on. And laughing is just seriously good for the soul.

  • Listen to some live music.

Hearing your favorite band live is totally different than listening to them in your car. It’s your birthday so splurge on some tickets. Take someone fun, and sing out loud at the top of your lungs. Maybe even do a little chair dancing. It’ll put a smile on your face that will last all year. I promise.

  • Go on an adventure

Whether your idea of “adventure” is a weekend in LA or a bike trip across Italy, celebrate your birthday by traveling somewhere new. Even if it’s only some place that you’ve never been in your own city, getting out of your comfort zone is a fantastic way to set a new tone for the new year.

  • Visit a burlesque club.

Embrace your inner sex kitten and learn how to shimmy like Dita Von Teese. You’ll walk taller. Even if you always wear flats.
