Boost Your Happiness

Who doesn’t want to be happy, right? But sometimes it’s hard which is where these tips to boost your happiness come in. They’re like a giant dose of sunshine, are super easy to implement, and don’t require a lot of equipment. Better yet, they’re really good for your health, your skin and your waist line. All in all, a slam dunk, right?

Eat 8 Fruits & Veggies a Day

In a recent study conducted by the American Journal of Public Health, researchers found that eating 8 servings of fruits and vegetables a day will boost your happiness. In fact, the difference between eating 0 servings of produce a day and 8 servings a day was equivalent to landing a job after being unemployed. That’s a whole lot of happy. Scientists think it’s due to the fact that all those vitamins in the produce bump up your serotonin level.

Sing in the Shower

Next time that you’re sudsing up in the shower, try getting in touch with your inner Adele. It’s a fast and easy way to boost your happiness level. Turns out that singing oxygenates your blood which is good for your mood and your heart. So, I don’t care if you sound like a dying cat in mating season, it’s time to embrace your inner Madonna. Or Béyonce. Or…. well, you get the idea.

Grab Some Crayons

There’s a reason that adult coloring books are a boon for book stores. Coloring, whether with pencils, crayons or finger paints, is a great way to reduce stress. The repetitive nature of filling in the lines turns off your brain’s worry center. And less worry = less stress which will definitely boost your happiness. It’s like meditation for the creative mind. Besides which, it’s fun. And fun is always happy.

Sit Up Straight

Oh, how many times growing up did I hear my Mom say: “Sit up straight”? The answer would be, a lot. It turns out that sitting up straight doesn’t just make you look better, it makes you feel better. In a study in Health Psychology, participants who sat up straight reported feeling in a better mood, had more self esteem and were less afraid.  Sitting with your head and back erect causes your autonomic nervous system to increase blood flow. Which ups your energy. And more energy boosts your happiness.

Chin Up & Boost Your Happiness

In the same vein, walking tall with your chin up will make you more cheerful. Why? Because our brain associates postures with emotions so, walking like a hunchback, not so good. But walk like a lion and spread joy wherever you go.
